With Shirakawa-go sharing the characteristics of a highland area, it is known to be a comfortable place to spend time, even in mid-summer.

Willow-leafed magnolia
The tree’s white flowers adorn the mountains. It is also known as ‘Nioikobushi’.
Lush green vegetation
Starting in the area of the gassho style village, Shirakawa-go is wrapped in green. The season for enjoying a stroll has arrived.
Opening of “Mt. Hakusan Shirakawa-go White Road”, “National Highway Route 360”, and “Prefectural Route 451 (Mt. Hakusan Pak Line)”.
These local roads are closed due to snowfall during winter. They are re-opened from approximately early June until early November.
Mt. Hakusan officially opens
One of Japan’s 3 sacred mountains, the holy mountain of Mt. Hakusan officially opens to climbers with a ceremony that takes place around the beginning of June.
Lush virgin forest
Travelling along Prefectural Route 451 (Mt. Hakusan Park Line) through Oshirakawa, the virgin forests of beech and oak display a brilliant deep green.
Green ears of rice
The lush green rice beautifully surrounds the gassho style houses, and the view from the observation deck becomes ever more vivid.
